My
hard drive just crashed. It's not a "turn it off then on again" crash but a doom laden crash. This could be the end of my precious hard drive. I had a lot stored on that
solid state hard drive so it's been a bit of a disaster. Thankfully I do regularly backup my files onto DVD but I hadn't done this in about a month so a months worth of work has been destroyed. I'll double check with a computer repairer to make sure nothing is salvagable, but I did smell smoke when the crash took place so I think it may have melted somewhat.
My
computer speaker did a similar thing not so long ago and produced a smoky smell too. Maybe my house has some incorrect wiring or power surges. It's a worry with all the expensive equipment I have plugged in. Everytime I plug in my
laptop notebooks, there is always a subconscious fear that it will go "boom" and that'll be the end of it. I do have surge protectors in place but these have not always been successful in the past.
My
computer tools sure have had a work out these past few weeks as i've tried to replace some old outdated components. I'm quite sure this is not related to the hard drive disaster...although the computer speaker did die not long after I had previously tinkered with the equipment. No, it couldn't have been me and my
computer toolkit, i've been shown exactly what to do in the past and have even assisted my friends with their computer upgrades. Theirs have survived without incident, and are still going strong.
I'll need
computer trolleys to transport all my unintentionally destroyed equipment. None of it my fault, just power and water related. I have documented these moments of sadness and even produced a
computer wallpaper or two to share with those experiencing similar problems. Power surges must be a common problem as i've read many forum topics full of questions about how to prevent them. I think it happens what i'm using too much power at once and things start to get a bit zappy.
Fortunately all my
laptop accessories survived these issues and are still in perfect working order. I am keen to buy some new equipment though so a trip to the computer shop would not have been the end of the world.
Keyboards are my main objective, but a mouse or two would tickle my fancy also. I haven't shopped for new computer accessories in so long, it'll be amazing to see what new gizmos are now available. Ergonomic keyboards and mice have probably improved greatly since I last investigated themtoo.
I would love to trade in my
external modem for an internal one too. It's so big and chunky, and takes up a lot of my desk space. Its very noisy too which was surprising since I had bought the whisper quiet model. An
internal modem would definitely be quieter and have the buffer of the computer case to quieten any noises it may make. I need a faster modem too now that I have upgraded my internet plan, and probably need to buy one specifically for my ADSL connection.
Internal modems seem to come in a variety of models which will make the decision trickier, although I do have some supreme googling skills so that should help me discover the perfect modem for me.
